Theatre in Education Project at Hasland Junior School – Summer Term 2015
During Extended Learning Week, the Year 10 GCSE Drama group worked together to create a Theatre in Education Programme for the Year 6 students at Hasland Junior School. This is the fourth year running that we have done this and we all felt that this was probably our most successful project. The programme had the Year 6 students working in role as experts on Child Welfare from UNICEF. They were asked to visit a village in rural China where the school teacher there was concerned about the children in the village who were leaving his school to work in the fields to support their families. We set up the Junior School hall to be the village and invited the children to watch the story of the children in the village. We stopped the play at certain points and asked the students to talk to the characters and offer advice in their role as UNICEF workers, to the children of the village, the teacher and the adults.
