Extended Learning Day – 1 March 2017
The 1st of March sun provided the ideal weather for Year 8 to visit Padley Gorge and Bakewell to complete the river study section of the Geography curriculum.
Meanwhile, Years 7 and 9 spent the day in school, dividing their time between workshops led by school staff and visitors. Year 7 spent half the day learning Design skills, making mechanical automata based on the Mexican Day of the Dead, for the other half they enjoyed work with Maths teachers and the Happy Puzzle Company, developing their problem-solving abilities.
Year 9 were all involved in a Personal, Health and Social Education (PHSE) day, developing their understanding of First Aid, Drugs Awareness, Young Homelessness issues, Finance and Budgeting, Mental Health issues and Relationships.
The “Curious” aspect of the day was especially enjoyed by Year 10, who spent the morning reviewing key elements of their current English GCSE text – Simon Stephens’ play of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time – before travelling to Leeds to experience the play in performance at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Year 11 worked hard throughout the day completing further trial exams in Maths and English, checking their progress half-way between their last trial exams and the real thing in the summer.
