Curriculum Overview
Certain areas of knowledge, skills and understanding are essential for every school leaver, and these form the Core Curriculum which is followed by every student.
During their first year at Hasland Hall (Year 7), all students follow the same programme of work, as follows:
- English/Drama
- Mathematics
- Science
- History
- Geography
- A modern foreign language
- Design and Technology/Art
- PE
- Music
- Religious Education
For Years 8 and 9, the Core Curriculum remains the same as that in Year 7 with the addition of a second foreign language. Aspects of Personal, Health and Social Education are taught across the curriculum.
For Years 10 and 11, the Core Curriculum consists of:
- English
- Maths
- Science
- Physical Education
- Personal, Health and Social Education/Religious Education
In addition, all students choose four more subjects from a range of choices. Students take two GCSEs as part of English and two as part of Science, giving a total of 9 GCSEs.
GCSE Subjects
All students study for GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Maths and Combined Science. In addition to the 5 GCSEs, students choose a further 4 from the following subjects currently offered:
Art, Business, Computer Science, Dance, Drama, Food Preparation & Nutrition, French, Geography, Graphic Products, History, Media Studies, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Resistant Materials, Spanish, Textiles.

Due to current Government Advice regarding non-essential social contact the Community Choir will be suspended until further notice.
Despite this they have met virtually and produced a Lockdown Creation!
